Task One – Understanding copyright

Copyrighting is an important issue because the laws prevent people from 'stealing' people work, ideas or property. This also prevents sharing without permission and reposting music videos. This also prevents you from re-rising material that we do not have permission for and we don't have permission to make a new version of the music video.

A way of over coming the laws of copyrighting is if you give credit to the original version of the music video of the song. Or you could get permission from the artist by contacting them you could contact them by phone number, email or twitter. Once you have contacted them you can inform them of the problem you have and it will be there answer if you will have permission to use there music video.

Copyright was introduced in the UK in 1709. It came from a common concept called Statute of anne the law was passed into a statutory (required, permitted or enacted by stature) in law 1911 it was later emended in 1988 asa an act of parliament because the law was being amended more things came under the copyright laws. So people had to be more aware of what they did with other people’s music.

An example of celebrities breaching the copyright law is Jay z and kanye west

R&B artist Syl Johnson alleges Watch the Throne track samples his 'Different Strokes' without permission

You can usually tell when music is protected by copyright because they will probably have evidence in a form writing saying what is it protected. And also if it is a picture or a music video it will have an r in a circle to show it is protected.
